ABOUT ANDREA
ARTIST STATEMNT AND BIOGRAPHY
Andrea was born in St. Clair Shores, MI and currently resides in Romeo, MI. Andrea has participated in the Armada Art Fair for the past thirteen years, 2008-2019. She received five Best of Show awards for a variety of artworks. In 2017, she attended Macomb Community College for her general studies before transferring to Oakland University. Pursuing her bachelor’s degree at Oakland University in studio art with a specialization in painting. After college graduation, Andrea plans on attending graduate school to receive her master’s degree in art education and art therapy. Andrea wishes to become a licensed Art Therapist to work with military veterans, teach high school art classes and show in local art galleries.
Andrea’s concept for her artwork breathes details. Andrea paints her portraits, landscapes and historical military events with passion and precision. That passion for realism appears strongly in her work. Her attention to details almost reaches out and grabs the viewer, pulling them into the artwork so that the viewer gets lost in the beauty and uniqueness of the paintings. Details describe Andrea’s vision for the work she does because she likes to be truthful in her daily life. The colors grab the viewer’s attention and to plunge them into the scene to
connect to the context of the work.
Her portraits lead the viewer to see another human in scenes they themselves may not be in. The landscapes are vast and full of varieties of intensity, hues, and glow. She tends to focus on country scenery with open fields and barns. Her historical military paintings depict scenes of battlefield vehicles such as tanks, the American flag, and the American soldier during varying degrees of conflict. Andrea combines military artifacts or military soldiers with the American flag by integrating the person or artifact into the lines, shapes, and colors of a waving flag. You see a painting of the American Flag, but a person or object becomes the flag, quite unique and intriguing to see.
Andrea combines elements of realism to provide her viewer’s with experiencing a new reality. Her landscapes show off the countryside lifestyle that she enjoys living. The realistic portraits make the viewer’s feel as if they know the person that she has depicted. If someone were to ask if Andrea chose the military for did the military, choose her? She would state, the military has and will always be a part of her life. There is no greater sacrifice then one you lay down his life for one’s friends. The subject matter and color are important aspects that should invoke feelings and emotion for the viewer.

My Experience
4H is a U.S.-based network of youth organizations whose mission is "engaging youth to reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development."

Andrea began her art journey in School Section 4H club located in Armada, MI at the age of nine years old. She was enrolled in the club for eleven years (2008-2019) participating in art, rabbit and baking club. Andrea became Teen Mentor of the Art and Rabbit clubs for eight years. Then became President of School Section 4H club from 2017-2019, for her last two years in the club.
She learned from her mentor Lori Clough how to paint, draw and make crafts from scratch. During her time in 4H she entered her artworks in the Armada Fair earning multiple blue ribbons and Best of Show awards. She favorite accomplishment was having her favorite country singer, Granger Smith perform at the Armada Fair in 2016 and have him sign her Best of Show painting of his album cover for Dirt Road Driveway. Lori noticed Andrea's interest in art that she invited her to stay after school to help paint the Armada Theatre Department play sets. Andrea enjoyed working larger scale so much that Lori made her second in command of set painting. She let her be in charge of other high school students and teach them techniques she had learned. From there, other teachers took notice and offered her to paint more projects. Such as her still to date her largest work, an Annie Oakley themed Winter Color Guard 50 x 70 foot long tarp. During her senior year of high school, she finally entered into the official tech crew class and earning awards for her great work. She worked on painting sets for a total of six years and twelve theatre productions.
